Wendy Williams has checked into rehab to "take some time to focus on her health and wellness" her publicist confirmed Wednesday.
Sources tell Page Six that the 58-year-old's substance issues have "gotten worse," as "she went from [drinking] wine to straight up vodka." Williams' publicist Shawn Zanotti told The Sun that she checked into a "wellness facility" in an effort to "manage her overall health issues." The former talk show host "is being treated by a team of some of the best doctors in the world," Zanotti told the newspaper. Williams has had difficulties in controlling her drinking, which one source described as "failing."
The insider told The Sun, "She can't stop drinking and she needs to stop drinking; it's just making her health worse." Sources told Page Six that the production company for her former self-titled talk show, Debmar-Mercury, "refused" to assist Williams amid her health issues. The source said, "They turned their backs on her," and "had too much control over someone so vulnerable."
Earlier this month, Wendy Williams tried to allay fan fears after her talk show was canceled. Williams was said to be preparing "for a major comeback for the next level in her career with The Wendy Experience Podcast."
"Co-hosts I'm famous," she announced in a teaser clip for her new podcast. "And I'll be back. Trust me." But instead social media was taken aback by the 58-year's old's appearance and unblinking eyes. According to the DailyMail.com, Williams's physical and mental health are far more worrying than previously known.
The former radio host has spoken openly about her struggles with Lymphedema and Graves disease. She has also been open about her drug and alcohol addiction. But after a rambling interview on TMZ when she displayed her swollen legs and feet on camera, another where she claimed she was married a New York cop; and a third where she was seen asleep at the Louis Vuitton store – the streets are talking.
According to a source many of Williams's troubles are, "as a direct result of untreated alcohol addiction" that worsened during her stint in rehab for cocaine addiction in 2019. The mom-of-one also went through a tough separation and divorce from her second husband, Kevin Hunter.
Williams was with Hunter for close to 25 years and married for 21 when she filed for divorce in April 2019. It came following the revelation that he was having a child with his mistress of 15 years, Sharina Hudson, to whom he has since become engaged.
