He was drafted by the Chicago Bears during the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. In 2012, Melton done 32 tackles, and six sacks as a defensive tackle. During the remainder of 2013 season, he was placed into the injury reserve.
On March 18, 2014, he sealed the deal to Dallas Cowboys and signed up for a 1-year contract with the team. Melton has the option to stay with the Cowboys for three more years.
